blow是在美國生活最實用的詞匯之一。無論是獨立出現(xiàn)，還是和其他單詞一直構成短語，它都　有一些必須掌握的用法。

１）作及物動詞，blow可以表示“搞砸了‘的意思，類似于screw up。比如：

That was my best chance, but I blew it.（那是我最好的機會，我卻搞砸了。）

２）作不及物動詞，blow可以表示“差勁要，糟透了”的意思，類似于suck 和stink（請參考rock

& suck）。比如：

I lost my walled today. My driver’s license, credit cards, girlfriend’s picture… All gone!!! This totally blows! (我今天丟了錢包。駕照、信用卡、女朋友的照片…..全沒了。這太糟糕了！)

3) 作名詞，blow可以表示“打擊”的意思。比如：

His parents just died in a car accident. That’s a hugh blow to him.（他的父母剛剛在車禍中去世了。那

對他來說是個晴天霹靂。

4) blow 和money連用，可以表示“浪費，揮霍”的意思。比如：

If you are filthy rich like Bill gates , you can blow your money however you want. But you are not, so you’d better make a plan and use your money wisely.（如果你像Bill Gates那么富有，你愛怎么揮霍都可以。問題是你沒有那么有錢，所以最好還是認真打算一下，明智地用錢。

5) blow away可以表示‘非常震撼“的意思，通常用來形容發(fā)的感覺。比如：

Did you go to Cher’s farewell concert last night? It was awesome! Completely blew me away.９你昨晚去看Cher的告別演唱會了嗎？非常棒！太震撼人心了。）

注釋Cher為美國著名多棲明星，馳騁娛樂圈多年，已年近６０.

6) blow one’s mind 與blow away類似，表示“非常震撼”。比如

The action scenes in that movie absolutely blew my mind.（那部電影里的動作場面太震撼人心了！）

這種用法還衍生出了一個相關的形容詞：mind-blowing。例句可以改成：”The action scenes in that

Movie absolutely mind-blowing.”意思不變。

7) blow off可以表示“爽約”，　類似于中文里的“放鴿子”。比如：

If you blow me off one more time, I swear we are done.（你要是再敢放我鴿子的話，我發(fā)誓我們玩兒完了。

和blow off 類似的短語還有stand up。前者以主動高不成低不就為主（blow someone off，放某人鴿子），后者以變主（get stood up by someone.被某人放鴿子）。

8) Blow out of proportion 表示“夸張，過分渲染”的意思。比如：

Michael Jackson’s child molestation case is all over the news. I think the media are blowing this way out of proportion. I’d rather follow other more important stories.（新聞里到處都是關于Michael Jackson騷擾兒童案件的報道，我覺得媒體實在太過分渲染了。我寧愿關注別的更重要的消息。
