美國俚語—掌上明珠
The apple of one's eye, 從字面上來看“眼中的蘋果”，不過它的實際意思當然不是這樣啦，實際上它是“掌上明珠”之意。例如：He likes children and treats every child as the apple of his eye. He never blames them and always be kind with them.(他很喜歡孩子，把每個小孩都當成自己的掌上明珠。他從不責備他們，對孩子們一直很友善。)
在英國菜中baked potatoes 是一種不錯的選擇。通常你去好一點的餐廳點bake potatoes時，服務生都會問你上面要加什么，如果你不喜歡加上butter或者olive ，就可以跟他說: I want it plain.這樣就可以啦！
美國的麥當勞和中國的不同是，它們的tomato pastel 都是自己取用的，那里會有另外一個小臺子專門擺醬及吸管。但是如果你是外帶，店員就會問你Which sauce do you like？這是你就可以回答說ketchup 或是BBQ sauce 啦。

許多食物，在熱的時候吃起來別有relish，因此, Come and eat, or your dinner will get cold.( 來吃吧，要不晚飯會變冷的。) 或者Would you please warm up my coffee?( 你幫我把咖啡加啡加熱一下好嗎？) 都是很炫的表達！
