The English phrase “face to face” and its Chinese counterpart are exactly the same But English people, to express the same idea, can say nose to nose instead. There is no such substitute in Chinese.
The word nose appears in many idioms. Here are two which are quite similar to their Chinese equivalents: lead somebody by the nose and turn up one’s nose at somebody or somethings.
Englisah people can say as plain as the nose on one’s face to mean “very obvious”. Maye to them ,the nose is the most conspicuous part of the face.

Nose一詞出現在許多短語中。這里有兩條和中文的對應語十分想像;lead somebody by the nose(牽著某人的鼻子走);turn up one’s nose at somebody or something(對某人或某物嗤之以鼻)。英國人表示“明明白白”時,可以這樣說:as plain as the nose on one’s face,或許對他們來說,鼻子是位于臉上最明顯部位的緣故。
