在社交中誰都可能碰上需要向別人道歉的時候，一般情況下我們道歉時只需要很簡單的一句“I’m sorry.”就可以了，對方一般會有相應的原諒表示，如：“That’s all right.” 道歉時，為了顯示誠意，通常還伴有解釋你做錯事的原因的話。比如你遲到了，除說“I’m sorry that I’m late.”之外，也許應當說明一下原因，如：“I got caught in a traffic jam.”同時對待他人的道歉，采取理解、寬容并接受的態度是比較合適的。注意apologize與sorry的區別，前者表示某人對某事負有責任而做的道歉；而后者則表示不負有責任的道歉。
