關(guān)于英語end 與every 的英語口語的用法
End (或 go up) in smoke 煙消云散；不成功，成為泡影
指一個(gè)人所期望的閃亮火焰消失了。
【例】he made a big to do at the start and spent pounds and pounds, but you see it has all ended in smoke.一開始他就大肆喧嘩，并一再花錢，可是您瞧，毫無結(jié)果
End of one’s tether忍無可忍；山窮水盡；智窮力竭
原指縛在繩索上的家畜，可以再繩索長(zhǎng)度范圍內(nèi)啃草，但不能自己走出超過繩索的長(zhǎng)度范圍。一般用于下列句子中：be at the end of one’s tether,或reach the ead of one’s tether.
【例】if you ask me ,I think they are at the end of their tether. Another strain upon their business means bankruptcy for them.你若問我，我認(rèn)為他們已到山窮水盡的地步了。他們的經(jīng)營(yíng)再受到一次壓力就會(huì)破產(chǎn)。
Enough to make a saint swear[口]足以使圣人詛咒；足以令人惱怒
美國劇作家佛朗西斯.博蒙特和弗萊徹在一六二O年合寫的《菲拉斯特》中首先使用這條成語。
【例】the remonstrances I have received have been enough to make a saint swear.我所受到的種種訓(xùn)誡什么人也吃不消。
Every now and then常常，不時(shí)地
這里的every據(jù)說是ever的訛用，同樣錯(cuò)用every的還有every so often（不時(shí)，時(shí)常）。有時(shí)用again代替then
【例】1.last night ,every now and then, his baby cried out in his sleep.昨夜他的嬰兒常常在睡眠中大喊起來。
2.as we watched the sea, every now and again we caught the flash of the strange sea creature’s fins.我們觀看大海時(shí)，不時(shí)看到那個(gè)奇異的海洋動(dòng)物的鰭一閃而過。
Every time 每次，每逢，毫無例外，毫無疑問，在任何情況或時(shí)候
原來是美語，用于詞句之后以加強(qiáng)語氣，很少用來指時(shí)間。
【例】1.that team wins every time.那個(gè)球隊(duì)每戰(zhàn)必勝。
2.i would choose that every time.毫無疑問，我愿挑選那個(gè)
3.i prefer him every time.我總是喜歡他。
（an 或one’s）ewe lamb小母羊羔——唯一的寶貝，唯一的孩子，最珍貴的東西
源出《圣經(jīng)》地十二章地一至十四節(jié)，拿單對(duì)大衛(wèi)所說的一個(gè)比喻。
【例】his daughter is an ewe lamb to him.女兒是他唯一的寶貝。
