Xiao Yang:Lance?Lance?Are you listening?
Lance: I’m Sorry.I was looking at the horiontal bars beside the street.Why do you have these sports facilities in the open? Are they there for the Olympic Bid?
Xiao Yang:In a sense, yes. But I think it’s also the government’s efforts to Promote the mass sports activities.
Lance:I have noticed that there are many of them all over the city. They must cost a lot of money.
Xiao Yang:Yes. Part of the money comes from the sports lottery. People buy them to support China’s sports activities.
Lance:It’s a good idea.You must be doing a lot to prepare for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Xiao Yang:Yes indeed. Hosting Olympic Games is a big event for all Chinese people, so every one wants to do something for it. People buy sport lottery and some even offered to donate money right after we won the bid. And the government is planning, building of rebuilding stadiums, sports groud, roads, and other facilities for the games.
Lance: And there is a movement to learn English so that people in Beijing can communicate with the athletes and the visitors abroad.
Xiao Yang: Yes, that’s why you’re here-to teach English to common Chinese!
