You may not be aware that you bat your eyelids many times a day. However, sometimes you have a lotto do and have to work all night, then you will not bat an eyelid. Nor will you bat an eyelid in face of danger if you have iron nerves.
Generally, it is impossible for anything to hang on the eyelids. It is too bad if something, say, a project, does hang on by the eyelids, for that means it is in imminent danger.
