The Medical Examination
A young man was called for army service and had to be medically examined. The doctor was sitting at a desk when he came in. He said to the man,”Take your coatr and shirt off, lessen your belt and sit on that chair.” The young man did so. The doctor looked at him for a monent without getting up from his chair and them said,” All right. Put your clothes on again.”
“But you haven’t examined me at all.”the young man said in a troubled voice.
“It isn’t necessary.” The doctor said gently. “When I told you to take your coat and shirt off, you heard me all right, so you aren’t deaf. You saw the chair I pointed to ,so your eyesight is good enough for the army. You managed to take your clothes off and to sit on the chair, so your body must be healthy, and you understood what I told you to do and did it without a mistake, so you must possess enough intelligence for the army.”
體檢

“你并沒有給我做什么檢查啊。‘年輕人困惑地問。
“這并不重要。“醫生耐心地說。”當我讓你脫掉衣服和襯衣時，你全聽到了，這證明你聽力正常。你看見了我指給你的椅子，因此你的視力很好，完全適合當兵。你脫掉衣服坐在椅子上，這說明你的身體健康。你完全明白我說的話，并且能正確無誤地照做，所以偌你擁有足夠的智慧入伍了。”
