The domestic Ducks
A gentleman who had gone out with his gun was going home one evening without having seen game. he saw a squadron of domestic ducks on a river. With one shot he killed the first duck. A peasant appears on the other side of the water, the owner of the ducks, no doubt. The sportsman throws him a piece of money, which the peasant picks up and promptly pockets. Second shot, second duck down, second piece of money, which silently joins the other in the peasant’s pocket.
Amused by this new sport, the shooter asks:” May I go at the same price?”
|Oh, certainly, sir only I must tell you that those ducks do not belong to me.”
