Carrots Or Cabbages
Miss Jones teaches mathematics at a school. In one of her classes, the boys and girls are about eight years old, and they are not very good at arithmetic. Miss Jones always tries to make the work interesting and amusing as well as useful.
One day she gave them a question: “ If you go to the market to buy vegetables,” she siad,”and a carrot and a half cost twelve pence, how much will you hav eto pay for a dozen carrots?”
The pupils began to write in their exercise-books, and for along time nobody speak. Then one boy put hios hand up and siad, “Could you repeat the question, please, Miss?”
The teacher began, “If a carot and a half-‘the boy interrupted her.
“Oh, a carrot and a half?” he said.” All this time I’ve been trying to work it out in cabbages, Miss.”
胡蘿卜還是洋白菜
瓊斯小姐在一所小學里教數學。她有一個班,學生都是八歲左右的男孩和女孩,算術學得不怎么樣。所以瓊斯小姐常常把課程安排得生動有趣,以求達到更佳的教學效果。
有一天她對學生們提了個問題:“假如你去市場買菜,一只半胡蘿卜需要12便士,一打胡蘿卜多少錢呢?”
孩子們在他們的練習本上算了起來,在很長一段時間里,都沒有人講話。后來一個男孩舉起手說:“您好能重復一遍題目嗎,老師?”
于是老師開始重復題目如果一只半胡蘿卜——“
男孩突然打斷了她。“哦,一只半的胡蘿卜?”他說,“這半天我一直是用洋白菜計算的,老師。”、
